Drug clearing operations in Western Visayas jails, including Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, will continue amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The heads of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-6 and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-6 will fully implement drug clearing operations in jail facilities in the region, including the sustainability of status by those already cleared by the Regional Oversight Committee, a report from PDEA-6 said.

In a meeting recently of Jail Senior Supt. Baby Noel Montalvo, regional director of BJMP-6, and PDEA-6 regional director Edgar Apalla, they discussed the conduct of greyhound operations in jails, and random drug tests on persons deprived of liberty and jail personnel as part of intensified efforts to achieve drug-cleared facilities.

The activities were suspended in the past months to ensure the health and safety of everyone due to Covid, but both offices will resume these operations the soonest possible time, the report added.*
