Personal grudges and land dispute are being eyed by the police as motives in the shooting and killing of a 43-year-old woman, and the wounding of her two companions in Sitio Pantao, Brgy. Pandan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental on Thursday night.

P/Lt. Donny Magbanua, deputy police chief of Pontevedra, identified the woman, who was declared dead on arrival at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital, as Ana Oñas, of the sitio.

Magbanua also identified the alleged gunman as Pedro Oñas, 41, who is a relative and neighbor of Ana.

Investigations of the Pontevedra police showed that Ana and her two companions, identified as Georgelyn Linigao, 51, and Jesselino Duaban, were on their way home when they were waylaid and shot by the suspect, with a .45 caliber pistol.

She succumbed to gunshot wounds in her abdomen and right leg, while Linigao and Duaban sustained injuries in the groin area, and left side of the abdomen, respectively, the police said.

The two are now being treated at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, after an initial medical treatment at the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City.

Policemen, who responded to the shooting incident, picked up Nelson Espadera for investigation, while Pedro remains at-large, as of this writing. Recovered at the crime scene were two fired cartridges of a .45 caliber pistol.*
