Thirty-one more police personnel in Western Visayas tested positive for COVID-19, the Police Regional Office 6 reported.

Police records showed that virus infected WV personnel rose from 126 on Oct. 28 to 157, as of Nov. 12.

Of the 157 confirmed cases, 136 already recovered, with 20 cases active, and one death.

There are 56 police personnel and non-uniformed personnel (NUP) assigned in Negros Occidental, including those assigned in Bacolod City, who tested positive for the virus, topping the list of PRO 6 with having the most number of personnel infected by the virus, among six provinces in the region.

Of the 56 infected PNP and NUPs in Negros Occidental, 46 of them have already recovered, regional police spokesperson Lt. Col. Joem Malong, said in the report.

P/Lt. Abegael Donasco, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, on the other hand, reported that 23 police personnel, who fully recovered from the virus infection recently donated blood for plasma extraction to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital blood bank in Bacolod City, in line with the NOCPPO’s program.

The convalescent plasma of the persons who have recovered from the disease contains antibodies that can be transferred to the critically ill COVID-19 patients, known as convalescent plasma therapy, Donasco said, citing DOH reports.

Iloilo province, including Iloilo City, ranked number two with having the most number of infected police personnel with 29. But 28 of them have already recovered, the report added.

There are 37 police personnel assigned at the PRO6 headquarters at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City, who also tested positive for COVID-19, one each at the Aklan Police Provincial Office and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6, 23 at the Capiz Police Provincial Office, and 10 NUPs.

However, the Guimaras and Antique Police Provincial Offices, respectively, have remained COVID-free, the report added.*GPB
