The Inter-Agency Task Force-Visayas chief deputy implementer, Melquiades Feliciano, has assured the business community that virus containment and business continuity plans are being readied.

This was stressed by Feliciano in a meeting with the business community in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City on Friday, Frank Carbon, Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive officer, said yesterday.

Carbon said that Feliciano asked for two weeks to install a digital data gathering system, including the setting up of a Covid-19 information data bank to develop a comprehensive and up-to-date report on local transmission.

Feliciano also said they are preparing virus containment and business continuity plans that will be implemented, monitored, and revised if needed, Carbon added.

The business community was not too keen on Bacolod being placed under modified enhanced community quarantine due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the city.

They said that another total lockdown will erase the economic activity in the city.

The national government has already sent top officials, including Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., the chief implementer of the National Task Force Against Covid-19, and Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, who helped Cebu City contained its coronavirus cases, to the city to help the local government bring down the cases.

Carbon said they told Feliciano to consider a granular or localized lockdown and allow public transportation where movement is safe.

He said Feliciano asked them to give him two weeks, and that he might be able to help them open up their business and create more jobs and livelihood.*
