Unattended embers caused the fire that destroyed 11 houses and damaged six others in Purok Riverside Zone 2 in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City, on Friday.
Fire Officer 1 Rommel Ivan Labansawan, arson investigator, said the blaze started from the house of Ivy Zulueta, and spread to nearby houses that were made of light materials.
The City Social Services and Development will distribute P10,000 to families whose houses were destroyed and P5,000 for those with damaged homes.
The affected families are temporarily staying at the Barangay Bata gymnasium, and were visited by Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, along with other officials.
DSSD head Pacita Tero said 18 families were affected by the fire, and they were provided with food packs, tents, and sleeping and hygiene kits.*
