Two Negrenses landed in second place in the physician’s licensure examination, the Professional Regulation Commission announced yesterday.

Patrick Joseph Mabugat of Bacolod City and Adrian Emmanuel Teves of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental both earned a general average of 88.58 percent, a few points from the first spot won by Jomel Lapides of Manila, who got 88.67 percent.

Mabugat, son of former Bacolod City Police Station 1 chief, P/Col. Calixto Mabugat, is a graduate of the University of St. La Salle College of Medicine while Teves, son of Bayawan City Mayor Henry Pryde Teves, is a product of the University of Santo Tomas.

Mabugat topped the licensure exam for Medical Technology in 2014 after acquiring his degree from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

As for Teves, he is a magna cum laude graduate from Silliman University in Dumaguete City and also landed in second place in the licensure examination for Physical Therapists, also in 2014.

A total of 4,704 took the licensure exams for physicians but only 3,538 or 75 percent passed, the PRC announced.

The Board of Medicine spearhead the examination in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga this November.

The PRC, however, withheld the results of two examinees, whose names they did not disclose, pending final determination of their liabilities under the rules and regulations governing licensure examinations while 96 were also withheld pending completion of the remaining subjects in the Physician Licensure Examination.

The members of the Board of Medicine are Dr. Eleanor Almoro as chairman, with Drs. Godofreda Dalmacion, Dr. Zenaida Antonio, Dr. Rafael Castillo, Dr. Raquel Sayo, and Dr. Martha Nucum as members.

The PRC stressed that from January 11-29, 2021, registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card (ID) and Certificate of Registration will be done online and that those who would like to register may log in to www.prc.gov.ph.

The requirements, the agency said, include a duly accomplished Oath Form or Panunumpa ng Propesyonal, notice of admission for identification only, two pieces of passport sized pictures colored with white background and complete name tag, two sets of documentary stamps, and a short brown envelope.*APN
