Two more mayors in Negros Occidental and their Sangguniang Bayans and barangay captains have joined the call for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president in next year’s elections.

La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan confirmed that she and other town officials will support Duterte-Carpio if she decides to run for the highest government position.

“For me, it is women empowerment,” Mangilimutan said, in response to why she will support Duterte-Carpio. She also noted that the Davao City mayor manages her city well, in terms of governance, and should be emulated by other local government officials.

Being a local chief executive, she said that Mayor Sara is very familiar with running the executive branch, and knows the needs of the people at the grassroots level.

Noting that Negros Occidental officials supported different presidential candidates in previous elections, Mangilimutan, who is a member of the United Negros Alliance, said she is hoping that the province will support only one candidate in the 2022 elections.

Aside from Mangilimutan, retired P/Col. William Señoron, convenor of the Alliance and Broadcasting Committee – Padayona Inday Sara – Negros Occidental group, said yesterday that Hinigaran Mayor Nadie Arceo also declared his support for Duterte-Carpio during the group’s courtesy call on the two LCEs Monday.

Señoron said that Mangilimutan was also joined by the SB of La Castellana, headed by Vice Mayor Manuel Vera, Liga ng mga Barangay chairperson Noemi Nicor, and Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson Herald John Guinanao, in expressing their support to Duterte-Carpio.

Arceo also led Hinigaran officials and representatives of various organizations, including sectoral groups, who also assured their support for Sara.

Silay City Mayor Mark Golez was the first mayor of Negros Occidental who openly expressed his full support to the call for Duterte-Carpio to run for president in the 2022 elections, in a meeting with the group of Señoron last week.

Golez and Arceo are both members of Love-Negros.

Señoron said that members of the Philippine Guardians Brotherhood Inc. Negros Occidental and its Bacolod City Executive Council, led by Chito Magalona and Arturo Mixdon, also signed a manifesto of support for Duterte-Carpio.

On Aug. 1, Señoron said that members of the LGBTQ community in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental also joined the mounting clamor for Duterte-Carpio to run for president during a meeting with the convenors of ABC–Padayona Inday Sara in Bacolod City.*
