The Bacolod City Inter-Agency Task Force Against Coronavirus (IATF) is appealing to the public to stop discriminating against call center agents with the recent case of COVID-19 in one of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company in the city.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, IATF chairman in Bacolod, yesterday reminded the public that the BPO industry is a lifeblood of the Philippine economy, especially, in Bacolod City.
He pointed out that any act of discrimination, such as preventing a person from doing a legitimate act by means of threat, violence or intimidation is grave coercion and is punishable under the law.
Meanwhile, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that the city government is grateful to healthcare workers and frontliners in Bacolod who have helped in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,.
“We know how hard you’ve worked. We know how long you have worked all this time, and we know that without you, the job of fighting COVID-19 would be extremely difficult. We need you and we want you to be with us in this fight,” the mayor said.
He added that all city officials appreciate, admire and salute the health care workers and frontliners and they understand how difficult their job is and the risks they have to go through.
“You are there where others fear to tread. You are in places and time where others won’t dare. I want to assure you that you are admired, you are being appreciated, and are being respected for everything that you have done for the people of Bacolod and the city because in reality you are heroes,” Leonardia said.*
