The Negros Occidental Tourism Division conducted yesterday a Tourism Statistics Mentoring activity among 30 officers and statistics personnel from 17 local government units yesterday at Negros Residences in Bacolod City.

Spearheaded by OIC Provincial Tourism Officer Jennylind Cordero, the mentoring activity aims to provide the participants with knowledge on statistics data gathering and encoding of tourist arrival data.

The technical assistance on tourism statistics is mandated under Republic Act 9593, which requires the LGUs to monitor tourist arrivals from DOT Accredited and non-DOT Accredited Accommodation Facilities, and Tourism Attractions.

Statistics data from tourism arrivals is essential in helping the local government units and industry stakeholders determine future tourism trends, local development plans and programs in infrastructure and human resource.

Also discussed during the mentoring activity were the Fundamentals of Tourism, and the Western Visayas Tourism Situationer.

The provincial tourism office also plans to conduct training on capacity building, crisis management in tourism, heritage tourism development and digital marketing in the coming months.*
