Special kids get educational aid

Forty-eight school children of the Special Education Program (SPED) in Bago City were given educational assistance by the city government, through the City Social Services and Development Office.

They are the first batch of children with disabilities, who benefited from this program of the city, its press release said.

The turnover of P3,000 in cash assistance for each beneficiary took place at the Jubilee Hall of Bago City Hall recently.

CSWDO Leah Canayon said Bago has a school that offers special education to children with disabilities.

“It was established 6 years ago at General Juan Araneta Elementary School in Brgy. Poblacion because education is a basic right of a child,” she said in the press release.

“This pandemic was really a challenge to the parents who have children with special needs,” she added.

The city allocated a budget for the educational assistance of children enrolled in special education classes.

Present during the turnover were Vice Mayor Ramon Torres, Councilor Andrew Torres, ABC President Sergio Piansay, DepEd officials, Canayon, and the parents, who represented their children.

The activity was also in line with the National Children’s Month celebration this November, the press release added.*
