The city government of Bago, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office, turned over financial assistance to 166 solo parents for the educational needs of their children recently.

Each solo parent, who qualified under the Solo Parent Scholarship Project of the city government, received P3,000 in cash assistance on Friday, a press release from the city said yesterday.

The CSWDO said solo parents are among the vulnerable members of society, adding that they singly bear parental burden.

“The City recognizes their special needs, from psychological to financial, that should be addressed,” it added.

The beneficiaries were identified by the respective solo parent presidents in each barangay. The presidents then submitted the names of the beneficiaries with proper supporting documents to avail of the project.

The city allocated P500,000 for the project, charged to the 2020 Gender and Development budget.

Present at the distribution ceremony were Vice Mayor Ramon Torres, councilors Andrew Martin Torres and Victor Michael Javellana, and the CSWDO personnel, led by Leah Pilipina Canayon, the press release added.*
