“We are a step closer for Bacolod to have its own hospital,” Rep. Greg Gasataya said after the Senate approved on second reading Senate Bill No. 1647, authored by Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, that pushes for the creation of a Bacolod General Hospital.

Gasataya, who authored the counterpart House Bill No. 6731 that was approved by the House of Representatives in June last year, said the third and final reading of Zubiri’s bill is scheduled next week.

If there will be no objection or interpellation, the bill will be passed and forwarded to President Rodrigo Duterte for signing as a law, he said.

Once Duterte has signed it, the national government will fund the hospital construction, under the 2022 General Appropriations Act, through the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the Department of Health, Gasataya also said.

The Senate has allotted P600 million for the establishment of the Bacolod City General Hospital that may start next year.

Several areas are being considered as sites for the hospital, including those in barangays Mansilingan, Felisa, and Bata, near the boundary of Bacolod and Talisay.

Gasataya earlier said that five families have, so far, expressed interest of donating their lots for use as site of the hospital.

But he said it will be the local government of Bacolod and the DOH that will choose the appropriate site for the hospital.*
