BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

The renovation of Rizal Park in Bacolod has started and is expected to be completed within the year, City Engineer’s Office acting head, Alan Agbones, said.

Agbones said the project has an approved budget for the contract of P9.5 million, sourced from the local government support fund provided by the national government.

The project includes the reconstruction of the flooring, benches, fences, and grills that are already old, Agbones said, adding that the contractor has already fenced the area.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said earlier that the project is included in the Local Government Support Fund-Assistance to Cities for 2019, adding that the project is going to further immortalize national hero Jose Rizal.

Leonardia said he hopes that the park will be preserved and become an added attraction of Bacolod.

ROAD REPAIRS

Agbones said local road constructions are ongoing as they are taking advantage of the good weather. He said that although these constructions are funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways, the CEO is also overseeing them since these are local roads.

Agbones also said that cracks in newly-renovated roads are normal but they immediately put an asphalt overlay so these will not worsen as the cracks are not that massive. Among the road constructions about to be finished are those at Felisa Road that is already about 50 percent completed, and the Gonzaga Bridge, North Drive, and Rizal, Galo and Hernaez streets.*
