Health authorities in Negros Oriental yesterday urged the public to immediately report to the police persons found violating the health and safety protocols set by the government to stem the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.
Bimbo Miraflor, Capitol public information officer, said that any concerned individual may report to the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office, or through the local police stations.
This, after observations were raised about mass gatherings in Dumaguete and around the province amid repeated calls to do away with Christmas parties, large crowds, and other activities where people converge for the holiday celebrations.
“The report must come with complete details, such as when and where the party or activity took place so that the police can immediately verify and act on it,” Miraflor said.
Meanwhile, a supermarket in Guihulngan City was ordered closed by the local government unit recently after a large convergence of people was reported due to a promotional sale, assistant provincial health officer, Dr. Liland Estacion, health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, said.
The local police carried out the closure order by the LGU, she said. Estacion also said that Governor Roel Degamo is in the process of preparing and signing an executive order for the guidelines and other protocols to follow during the Christmas holidays, such as against the holding of parties and other mass gatherings, and celebration of the traditional Simbang Gabi (evening mass) and Misa de Gallo (dawn mass) for nine days leading to Christmas Day.*PNA
