Councilor Renecito Novero, chairman of the Bacolod Quarantine Center Action Team, has inspected the Yolanda housing project in Brgy. E. Lopez, Silay City in Negros Occidental as a possible isolation center for Covid-19 cases from Bacolod City.

Novero said Mayor Evelio Leonardia has instructed them to exhaust all possibilities to ensure that the city has additional isolation facilities, even outside of Bacolod, to provide Bacolodnons with appropriate quarantine centers.

They inspected the Yolanda housing project in Silay recently to identify the units that Bacolod can use since some are already utilized by Silay City government and the provincial government as healing centers, Novero said.

He acknowledged the need for a memorandum of agreement if ever the city will use the isolation facility in Silay.

“We are preparing all available facilities that we could provide. Aside from those that we already have, we continue to scout for additional quarantine or isolation facilities,” Novero said.

At present, Bacolod has 11 public schools and one private school being used as quarantine centers. Five more public schools will be added to the list this week, he said.

Novero said they now have about 1,000 bed capacity and the additional schools will provide the city another 1,000 bed capacity.

While the city may have enough isolation facilities at the moment, he said they should not be complacent because testing and contact-tracing are conducted daily and those who tested positive during the two-day mass testing are being transferred to isolation centers.*
