The Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinary office held a veterinary medical mission in Brgy. San Miguel, Murcia, as part of disaster preparedness efforts and risk reduction for livestock and poultry, Provincial Veterinarian, Dr. Renante Decena, said yesterday.

Decena said the medical mission was spearheaded by Dr. Ruffa Mae Gersaniva, district 3 veterinarian, together with district 3 field unit technical personnel with the assistance of the paraveterinarians of Murcia.

He said they are the extension arms of the provincial government in the delivery of services, in collaboration with the Murcia town government, DA, and the Philippine Carabao Center.

Decena added that among the services provided were consultation, treatment, deworming, vitamin B supplementation of pets and livestock animals, vaccination, distribution of veterinary drugs, medicines and biologics to boost and strengthen the immune system of pets and livestock animals against the scorching summer season.

The whole day activity resulted in 57 dogs vaccinated against rabies, and thousands of animals dewormed, diagnosed, treated, and given vitamins, Decena said.*
