Two men on a motorcycle shot dead a probationer in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City Friday night, Station 7 commander, P/Capt. Elmer Bonilla, said yesterday.

Bonilla identified the fatality as Audie Gonzaga, 38, of Purok Kabugwason in Brgy. Mansilingan, who died while being treated in an undisclosed hospital.

Investigations conducted by P/MSgt. Raffy John Calderon show that Gonzaga was on his way to buy food when a scooter passed him, and one of the suspects alighted and shot him.

The police said that the sister of Gonzaga failed to identify the suspects because the area where the shooting happened was not well-lighted.

As of yesterday, Calderon said they did not have any suspect yet in the killing of Gonzaga, who, he said, had just been released from jail on probation.

Police records show that Gonzaga was arrested in 2019 for illegal drug charges.

The police viewed the closed-circuit television camera records of houses near the crime scene for the possible identification of the suspects.

Witnesses claimed they heard seven gunshots. Several cartridges of a .44 caliber pistol were also recovered at the crime scene.

P/Lt. Eduard Bolivar, officer-in-charge of the Drug Enforcement Unit, told Aksyon Radyo Bacolod that they were supposed to conduct a drug buy-bust operation against Gonzaga.

Bolivar said they have been conducting surveillance on Gonzaga for a month now, on information that he had gone back to the illegal drugs trade. Bolivar added that Gonzaga was in their drug watch list and that, according to their asset, he was selling huge volumes of illegal drugs.*
