A laborer, 56, has been arrested in Brgy. Cabagnaan, La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Sunday, for the death of his son, the police said.
The suspect, identified as Romulo Roto Sr., was reported by the La Castellana police to have shot his son, Romulo Jr., in the head, using an improvised gas-operated rifle, locally known as “boga”.
Initial investigations of the La Castellana police showed that the victim, who was under the influence of liquor, figured in heated arguments with his elder brother, from whom he had wanted to borrow money.
During the argument, Romulo Jr., 25, allegedly tried to hack his two brothers, who managed to evade the attack, the police said.
The father tried to pacify the commotion and was also attacked. This prompted the suspect to shoot the victim in the head, and hit him with a piece of wood in the neck, causing his death, police investigations further showed.
Recovered at the crime scene were the gas-operated rifle, and a 28-inch bolo. Romulo Sr. is now in the custody of the La Castellana Police Station.*
