Some 200 farming families in Barangay Binubuhan, Bago City, Negros Occidental, are benefiting from the P9.63-million newly-paved concrete road implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

DPWH-Western Visayas regional director Lea Delfinado said yesterday that the improved road provides a seamless transportation system for the residents, mostly farmers and planters.

“Farmers can now easily deliver their farm products to the markets and save time and expenses in the transport of goods, helping them earn more for their families,” Delfinado said in a statement.

The DPWH-Negros Occidental 4th District Engineering Office said the 640-meter farm-to-market road has been paved with a five-meter wide, two-lane concrete cement pavement, that also includes a provision for slope protection, such as grouted riprap.

Aside from providing faster access for the transport of farm goods, the concrete road also provides for a more convenient travel of motorists and commuters, and faster delivery of basic government services to far-flung communities in the area, the DPWH added.

Known as the “Rice Bowl of Negros Occidental” for its vast rice plantations, Bago is the top rice-producing city in Western Visayas and recognized as one of the top rice-producing local government units in the country by the Department of Agriculture.*PNA
