The Saravia Mall worth P150 million is nearing completion and its turnover by the private contractor to the local government of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental is expected in May this year, Mayor Marvin Malacon said.

The two-storey mall will have more than 100 commercial spaces, with the second floor allocated for a pension house, offices of national government agencies, and a function area for big events, Malacon said.

Market stall owners will be given priority in the new commercial building, with the remaining spaces to be awarded to interested parties, through bidding, he added.

Malacon also said a bio-fuel company has expressed intention to put up offices at the mall, while McDonalds will set up a store in front of the market.

To further boost the economy of the town, Malacon said they are lobbying with the Philippine Ports Authority to revive the Tuburan Port, after a local investor said it intends to partner with the municipal government in developing it.

He also said they are planning to transfer the fish market from Brgy. Manta-angan to Brgy. 2 poblacion. He also said the construction of the Land Transportation Office in EB Magalona will start next month, and is expected to boost the economy of the town.*
