The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 together with the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD)-Bacolod, will distribute financial assistance to identified beneficiaries from the different sectors in Bacolod City affected by the COVID-19 pandemic next week.

The DSWD head office has provided cash assistance to Bacolod City amounting to P5 million for the month of October and another P5 million for November or a total of P10 million.

Pacita Tero, DSSD Bacolod head, said yesterday that the payout will be distributed through the barangays.

Tero said they already conducted interviews last month while the city was placed under Modified Enhance Community Quarantine (MECQ).
They are now validating the number of beneficiaries who can avail of the assistance.

The financial aid to be given to a certain beneficiary will vary from P1,000 to P5,000, depending on the sector he belongs to and the need of the family, she said.

Tero said they will be issuing the mechanics for the implementation of a more organized distribution to prevent a similar incident to what had happened last month at the Bacolod City Government Center.

She said the budget used for the fare of the Badjaos who were sent home to Mindanao was taken from the P5 million fund given by the DSWD for October. A portion of the fund will be extended to other people who are asking for assistance from the city for their medical, transportation or COVID-related needs.*
