The Sangguniang Panlungsod of San Carlos City in Negros Occidental is offering a P100,000 reward to help authorities in the speedy solution of the murder of provincial consultant Mariano Antonio “Marton” Cui, Mayor Renato Gustilo said yesterday.
Both the Special Investigation Task Group created by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and the National Bureau of Investigation are clueless as to the suspects and the motive behind the shooting of Cui one week ago, as of yesterday.
Gustilo said that the city government may increase the cash reward to expedite the solution of the case.
The San Carlos SP and Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona, in a joint statement, said they were deeply affected by the senseless killing of Cui, whom they described as an honorable man and a citizen of the city.
Cui, who also served as chief of staff of former Rep. Julio Ledesma IV (Neg. Occ., 1st District) will be laid to rest today in San Carlos City.
The SP said that as a Team Unity consultant, Marton, together with Cong. Jules and few other visionaries achieved an almost impossible feat, by constituting a united political party geared towards growth and sustainability with integrity in governance.
“What he had done was incomparable. He had always gone out of his way to help the poor and the marginalized in their dire straits,” the statement added.
Initial police investigations showed that two vehicles were suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime, and the gunman shot Cui from a distance. Two slugs of a still unidentified caliber of firearm were recovered by the police from the body of Cui and from his service vehicle.*
