At least 87.25 percent of hospital beds dedicated to Covid-19 patients are occupied, as of June 3, the city’s Health Care Capacity Management said in a report yesterday.

Data on capacity utilization rate showed that, in all seven hospitals across the city, 87.77 percent of regular beds and 85.19 percent of Intensive Care Unit beds are already being used.

“Cases admitted in hospitals are very severe, if not moderate to severe, or critically-ill. These really need ICU bed accommodation,” Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical and data analysis of the Emergency Operations Center Task Force, said.

In the six private hospitals, 82.93 percent of Covid-19 beds are already in use while at the government-run Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, 93.14 percent of the Covid beds are occupied as well.

Of the 215 functional Covid beds in all hospitals, only 27 are available, that means 188 beds are already occupied.

The remaining 27 beds include 23 regular beds, with 19 in private and four in government hospitals, and three ICU beds in private and one in government hospitals.

Data also showed that, of the 188 admitted Covid-19 patients, 165 occupy regular beds while 23 are ICU patients.

Under the One Hospital Command Center, the seven healthcare facilities include the CLMMRH, Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, Bacolod Queen of Mercy Hospital, Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital, Metro Bacolod Hospital and Medical Center, South Bacolod General Hospital, and The Doctors’ Hospital.

Earlier, Dr. Rosalie Deocampo, contract tracing head of EOC-TF, stressed the importance of seeking early treatment for Covid infection since late medical consultation leads to increased chances of hospitalization, or even death.

Seeking consultation after four days or more since the onset of illness increases the risk of being hospitalized, being placed on a mechanical ventilator, or dying, the EOC-TF data showed.*PNA
