The National Telecommunications Commission did not grant the request of the Bacolod City School Board for authority to install and operate a non-commercial FM broadcast station in Bacolod City.

NTC commissioner Gamalie Cordoba, in a letter to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran dated Jan. 21, said that while the Commission recognizes the need in the pursuit of the objective of the Local School Board, broadcast frequency is a very limited natural resource which they cannot afford to assign to each and every school.

Cordoba said the NTC and the Department of Education have been in constant coordination to ensure continuity of providing quality education through the use of cable TV and broadcasting facilities. “We strongly suggest that the Local School Board of Bacolod coordinate with the DepEd central office for guidance, and with the Philippine Broadcasting Service, a government radio broadcasting station, for possible affiliation,” Cordoba added.*CGS
