The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office is extending help to the Department of Health in tracing those who have been in contact with COVID-19 patients in the province.

This is in compliance with the order of Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan, regional police director of Western Visayas, issued to all police units in Region 6 to intensify the conduct of contact tracing to locate transmissions and to end the spread of infection in the region.

A two-day seminar for members of PNP contract tracing teams will start today at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Jr. in Bacolod City, where PMaj. Jesus Mesahon, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Section, will share his experience as a member of Contract Tracing Team deployed in Cebu.

PLt. Wilma Silva, deputy NOCPPO Public Information Officer, said yesterday that the Contact Tracing Team in every local government unit will have members from the different agencies, with the local health officer as the team leader.

Silva clarified that the role of PNP is to conduct interviews, investigate COVID-19 cases, and encode data.

Persons having contact with COVID-19 patient shall be advised to go on quarantineuntil the release of the RT-PCR tests, she added.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire earlier said that 150,000 tracers are needed to look for those who have been in contact with COVID-19 patients all over the country.*
