BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Vice-Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said yesterday that the feasibility study for the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros islands bridge project, that will pass Pulupandan town, is not yet final.

Ferrer said there was a revision in the feasibility study, on where it has to pass in Pulupandan. Stressing that he is not against the project, Ferrer said what they are asking is for the Department of Public Works and Highways to explore other areas, especially Valladolid town, for the proposed bridge connection to Negros Occidental.

Rep. Juliet Ferrer (Neg. Occ., 4th District), wife of the vice governor, submitted a position paper at the House Committee on Public Works and Highways, requesting the DPWH to look into other areas in Negros Occidental, aside from Pulupandan.

Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu earlier ordered a new feasibility study to include the Third District, particularly E.B. Magalona and Victorias City, as areas where the bridge can be constructed to directly link Negros and Iloilo.

Ferrer said the DENR also raised some issues on environmental concerns if the bridge will pass Pulupandan.

Moving the proposed bridge to Valladolid from Pulupandan has many advantages, Ferrer said, adding that there will be no more relocation of affected residents, the exit and entrance will be the four-lane highway, and less expenses for the government as it will no longer buy private properties for the right-of-way.

For the nth time, Ferrer said he reiterated his request and that of the provincial government for the DPWH to provide them a copy of the Negros-Panay bridge feasibility study. As of this time, only the proposed site in Pulupandan town that is in the fourth district, is included in the initial study.*
