The provincial government of Negros Occidental is responding to the call for help of local government units in Luzon devastated by the series of typhoons that hit them.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said yesterday that Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has instructed the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to allocate financial assistance of P1 million each to the provinces of Catanduanes and Albay that were badly hit by Typhoon Rolly.

After “Rolly”, other provinces in central and northern Luzon were also battered by Typhoon Ulysses, with death toll reported at 69, and 1.7 million residents affected, as of Nov. 15, the NDRRMC reported.

Diaz said Lacson is slated to convene the PDRRMC to look into the possibility of allocating additional amounts to assist Cagayan and other LGUs devastated by Ulysses.

Noting that flooding is very pervasive in Luzon and its destruction very appalling, Diaz said it is a sad thing to witness at this time of the pandemic.

“We hope also to assist them because, in times of need, we should be available to assist our LGUs,” he added.

The Philippine Coast Guard also announced yesterday that it is accepting donations for Cagayan Valley and Bicol regions recently devastated by the typhoons.

The Coast Guard said that residents in those areas need food and water, but they will not accept clothes because of the COVID situation.*GPB
