The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) agreed on Tuesday to renew the detailed service (DS) for national athletes who have already booked or still vying for spots in the Tokyo Olympics.

The tripartite agreement, which expired last May, is supposed to be for all national athletes, but with coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic still affecting the Philippines, only those still in the running for the Olympics were granted DS for now.

“We are working with the POC in drawing up the list,” said PSC Acting Executive Director lawyer Guillermo Iroy Jr. yesterday.
He actually requested 78 national athletes and 52 coaches from 19 sports, namely swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, wrestling, boxing, baseball, rowing, sailing, sepak takraw, softball, soft tennis, weightlifting, cycling, obstacle sports, Muaythai, judo and PHILSPADA athletes from athletics, badminton, table tennis, and cycling, to be detailed to the PSC in a letter to the AFP.

The final details of the agreement may be released by August once AFP Special Service Unit chief Col. Rocky Binag, POC secretary general lawyer Ed Gastanes, PSC’s Iroy, and national sports association (NSA) affairs head Annie Ruiz are done discussing matters.
Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and boxer Eumir Marcial, both enlisted to the Philippine Air Force, have already resumed their training ahead of their Tokyo Olympics bid.*PNA
