A series of webinars on the production, packaging, labeling, and marketing of muscovado sugar will be held every Thursday and Friday, starting October 22 to November 27.

These webinars, organized by the Sugar Regulatory Administration and the National Economic and Development Authority Region 6, aim to address the concerns of industry stakeholders in Western Visayas, being the country’s top muscovado sugar producing-region, contributing 32.5 percent to the total commodity output.

SRA, in an advisory, said the webinars are eyeing to orient industry players of the value chain supply of the muscovado sugar and how to improve the coordination of the actors in the supply chain, reaching sugarcane farmers and producers in far-flung areas of the region amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

It also aims to reorient the stakeholders – sugarcane farmers, producers of muscovado, millers, traders, repackers, and institutional buyers – of the best agricultural and farm management practices, soil testing analysis, and varietal programming.

The introduction of sugarcane high-yielding varieties for muscovado, training farmers to apply their knowledge in designated pilot or demo farms/block farms, giving access to financial assistance, mechanical farm implements and fertilizers will also be tackled for them to become competitive players in the world market.

Interested participants can coordinate with the SRA Research, Development and Extension, and Regulation Department in Bacolod City, SRA Satellite Office or through the SRA-NEDA Muscovado Sugar Webinars Facebook page, or call 09988453191 or 09229200702.*
