The Murcia Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office formally inaugurated its newly-constructed two-storey building with high-tech conference hall in the second floor, and floor-to-ceiling CCTV monitors at the ground floor.

Murcia Mayor Victor Gerardo Rojas spearheaded the simple blessing and inauguration Friday, together with Vice Mayor Johnny Reosura, Sangguniang Bayan members, MDRRMO head Vicente Leonida and other department heads of the town, a press release said.

“I am glad that the MDRRMO now has its own permanent building, that serves as a command center and 24/7 monitoring center of the more than 80 CCTV cameras in strategic places around the town proper. This allows our MDRRMO personnel to monitor suspicious activities and respond immediately to emergencies,” Rojas said.

The MDRRMO command center is located next block to the public plaza, right beside the municipal police station and the Bureau of Fire Protection station, for quicker coordination with the police and fire officers, whenever their assistance is needed.

“Our MDRRMO has two existing multi-purpose vehicles. We intend to provide an additional brand-new multi-purpose vehicle and ambulance to further empower our personnel to fulfill their mandate of ensuring the safety of all Murciahanons,” Rojas added.

The building is among several infrastructure projects implemented during the administration of Rojas. The others included the ongoing renovation and beautification of the plaza, and the construction of a two-storey building that will house the tourism office, senior citizens office, an air-conditioned library equipped with computers and free Wi-Fi, and a museum, the press release said.

Nearing completion, too, are the Sangguniang Bayan building beside the municipal hall and a multipurpose covered court at the back of the PNP and MDRRMO buildings.

The wet market is also being renovated, which includes the installation of tiled display stalls, washing sinks and drainage system, and the upcoming constructions of a modern slaughterhouse, sanitary landfill, and municipal cemetery, the press release said.

Reosura assured the MDRRMO personnel of the SB support for the purchase of additional vehicle and ambulance, and other endeavors.*
