The province of Negros Oriental yesterday reported more recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) with no new positive infections over the weekend.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, health committee chair of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), of the province said in a press briefing. That they received from Cebu City 158 negative throat swab test results with eight recoveries, and three other results that were positive but were all repeat swabs.

As of yesterday there were no new Covid-19 positive cases in Negros Oriental, Estacion said, and she attributed the recoveries and reduction in confirmed infections to the cooperation of the people.

“It is the effort of everybody, such as front-liners, local chief executives, (the) IATF, especially the people of Negros Oriental that have in a way cooperated with the health protocols set by government,” Estacion said.

The positive repeat swabs are those of a 71-year-old-female locally stranded individual (LSI) from Bais City who returned from Bulacan, and tested positive three times already; a 42-year-old-male from Sibulan who was stranded in Zamboanga del Sur and tested positive a second time; and a 40-year-old-male LSI from Bais City who arrived in Negros Oriental from Taguig City and also tested positive in his second swab, she said.

The eight recoveries, meanwhile, are all LSIs from Bais City – 4, Mabinay – 2 , Amlan – 1, and Sibulan – 1.

The total case count of Covid-19 positive cases in Negros Oriental remains at 185, with five deaths, 169 recoveries, and 11 active positive infections.

The 11 active cases are as follows: one each from Sibulan, Amlan, and Pamplona; three in Bais City; two in La Libertad; and three in Canlaon City.

Total tests done in the province are pegged at 4,475 with 70 pending results, Estacion said.

She said more specimens will be sent until Tuesday, as she cautioned the people not to let their guard down even with the encouraging numbers.

Meanwhile, Estacion reiterated that while the Department of Health (DOH) has reported on television that Negros Oriental has logged a total of 194 Covid-19 positive cases, the actual number here is just 185 cases.

There are instances where patients who test positive of the virus are reported under the province of Negros Oriental but in essence, they are not physically here, she said.

In some cases, such as uniformed men who originate from here, they are listed under Negros Oriental because of their residence but they are not in the province and have not been tested here, she added.*PNA
