Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia  decided to forego with a birthday celebration yesterday because of the  coronavirus pandemic.

He said he will only observe, not celebrate, his birthday.

Leonardia said he connected with various institutions, such as the orphanages and the Home for the Aged, and sent them food and grocery items.

He thanked his friends, relatives, supporters, and the public, saying they are his inspiration.

Leonardia said his birthday wish is for COVID-19 to be wiped off the face of the Earth.

He also urged his constituents to continue to do their part, be safe, and protect themselves. “We have to continue practicing basic health protocols,” he said.

The practice of these protocols should become a culture in Bacolod.

He said the COVID situation in the city is “still manageable,” but “we have to continue to be on guard.”

He reiterated that “each one of us has a responsibility…your birthday gift can be following the health protocols,” he added.*
