Manapla teacher dies in motorcycle accident

A high school teacher of a public school died when his motorcycle was hit by  a sports utility vehicle along the Araneta Highway in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City at about 4:45 a.m. yesterday.

Killed was Jojit Aujero, 47, of Brgy. Purisima in Manapla town, Negros Occidental, P/Major Joerey Puerto, Station 8 chief, said.

Puerto said that their initial investigation showed that Aujero was on his scooter and was heading south of the road when he was  hit by the  tailing Isuzu Mux in the area in front of the Toyota establishment.

He said the SUV driven by Anthony Nelson Huerva III, 32, of Doña Juliana Subdivision, Brgy. Taculing, dragged the scooter along with Aujero, about five meters from the point of impact.

Puerto also said that Aujero, who died on the spot, had his helmet on but it fell off when the accident happened as it was not locked.

Huerva surrendered to Police Station 9 after the accident but was later brought to a private and undisclosed private hospital in Bacolod because he was not feeling well.

Puerto said that, according to witnesses, the vehicle of Huerva was speeding. He said  that an amicable settlement may be reached between Huerva and the family of Aujero.

Aujero is a teacher at the Manapla National High School.

In Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental,  a driver died after the 10-wheeler truck he was on overshot in a road side canal in Brgy. Talubangi on Wednesday morning.

Police identified the victim as Winnefred Jernalim, 39, of Isabela town in the province.

Investigation showed that Jernalim lost control of the truck after he reportedly tried to avoid a check point.

He tried to maneuver, but  unfortunately failed to control the truck causing it to hit the steel barriers before falling into the canal, the police said.*
