Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered the Land Transportation Office to investigate “online fixers” offering driver’s licenses without going through the proper process for a fee.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Tugade said the fixers do not ask for requirements, particularly taking an exam and personal appearance for a driver’s license.
“This is wrong. Let’s not patronize this system and avoid this kind of method,” Tugade said.
He urged the LTO to partner with the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation to find and apprehend the online fixers.
Tugade also advised the LTO to help the public by simplifying the processes of getting a driver’s license.
“Magbigay tayo ng simpleng panuntunan at pamamaraan sa pagkuha ng lisensya, upang tumalima ang publiko sa tamang proseso at maiwasan ang pagtangkilik sa ilegal na pamamaraan (Let’s provide simple rules and processes for getting a driver’s license to encourage the public to follow the right way and avoid illegal means),” Tugade said.
He asked the public to reject fixers and follow the right process, reminding them that driver’s licenses acquired through illegal means are faked.
“We’ll avoid hassle and bigger problems in the future if your driver’s license is not fake or illegal,” Tugade said.
He assured the public that the LTO continues to streamline the processing of driver’s licenses and assured that only qualified drivers will be allowed on roads.*PNA
