BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and other Negros Occidental government officials, who are senior citizens, will avail of Covid-19 vaccines on April 30 at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said yesterday that Lacson will be joined by Manapla Mayor Manolet Escalante, Hinigaran Mayor Nadie Arceo, and Hinobaan Mayor Ernesto Estrao, who all preferred to be vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine.

Diaz added that those who prefer to take doses of AstraZeneca vaccine are Board Members Araceli Somosa, Victor Javellana, Sixto “Pal” Guanzon, and Samson Mirhan.

Also up for inoculation are Capitol department heads, including Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino and Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena, and Jun Caberoy of the Bids and Awards Committee.

Diaz also said that they are still waiting for a signal from Candoni Mayor Cicero Borromeo and Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco, and other local chief executives, who are already senior citizens, if they want to join the simultaneous inoculation activity at the TLJPH.

FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

He added that they have 31 Sinovac doses available for other local chief executives, who are senior citizens.

He said that Vice-Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer, who is also willing to be vaccinated, will wait for his turn in the vaccination rollout, since he is not yet a senior citizen.

Diaz admitted that there is still a shortage of vaccines for healthcare frontliners as of this time. “Until we finish with them, we cannot go to the next category” of the priority group for vaccination, he added.

But if there are local government units that have already completed the vaccination of medical health frontliners, they can now start inoculating senior citizens with co-morbidities.

FOR SPUTNIK

In response to the intention of some LCEs to avail of Russian-made Sputnik vaccines, Diaz said they have been advised to formulate a letter of intent, that they will forward to the national government, for inclusion in the allocation of this brand of vaccine. The provincial government of Negros Occidental has procured 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, and Diaz said the supply is expected to arrive in the third quarter of this year.*
