Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson issued an executive order yesterday extending the Modified General Community Quarantine over Negros Occidental until August 15.

Executive Order No. 20-35, Series of 2020, will take effect tomorrow, the governor said.

It is the fourth extension of MGCQ in the province since June 15.

Negros Occidental had 417 confirmed COVID-19 positive cases, as of Wednesday, while the entire country had more than 85,486, the governor noted.

“Because of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in our country, there is still a need to place Negros Occidental under MGCQ,” he added.

Negros Occidental had 23 new COVID-19 positive cases yesterday, of which two are frontliners, two domestic cases, and the rest all locally stranded individuals, Charina Magallanes-Tan, COVID-19 Incident Command Center spokesperson, said.

Of the COVID-19 positive cases reported in the province, 223 are active, 216 have recovered and one has died, she added.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia called the governor to say that Bacolod City may perhaps revert to General Community Quarantine starting August, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

City Legal Officer Joselito Bayatan has been tasked as the focal person to coordinate with the province so measures regarding border control and other salient provisions will be ironed out to ensure harmony between the policies of the province and Bacolod, Diaz said.

Leonardia could not be reached for comment as of press time.*
