Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson aired his concern yesterday over the news that 41 Transcom employees tested positive for Covid-19, adding that since eight of them are from outside Bacolod, they may have returned to their homes through public transportation.
Lacson said he is hoping that the virus did not spread further.
“I think Bacolod City is on top of the situation,” Lacson said, as he noted that all 41 employees have already been identified and quarantined.
“The city government of Bacolod will have to deal with the company if there were protocols that were not followed,” Lacson said.
In response to the non-uniformed health protocols being implemented by the city and the province, Lacson said “our protocols have been there from the very beginning. Bacolod City has its reason to implement its own health protocols.”
“As far as the province is concerned, we will continue our protocols,” Lacson said.
Locally stranded individuals are being swabbed upon their arrival at the Bacolod-Silay Airport, while returning overseas Filipinos and overseas Filipino workers are requested to avail of the free RT-PCR testing by the provincial government.
Lacson reminded provincial government employees not to report for work if they do not feel well upon waking up. He said he received a report that the Transcom employee believed to be responsible for infecting others, still went on duty despite not feeling well. “We have to be disciplined enough over whether we should go to work or not,” he added.*
