Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and about 20 of his staff have gone on self-isolation after a utility worker at his office tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday morning, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

They will all be tested for COVID-19 on Saturday, Diaz said.

The governor is doing well and is self-isolating as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus, he added.

The Governor’s Office at the Capitol in Bacolod City has been closed for decontamination.

By Monday, when the test results are out, they will know if the Governor’s Office can reopen or not, Diaz said.

The governor was set to join Gen. Melquiades Feliciano, Inter Agency Task Force – Visayas chief implementer, and Assistant Secretary Jonji Gonzales of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, at the press conference at the Social Hall of the Capitol in Bacolod City yesterday morning.

A zoom virtual press conference was instead held.

The Vice Governor’s Office and Sangguniang Panlalawigan legislative offices at the south wing of the Capitol are also on lockdown after a technical assistant of a board member tested positive for COVID- 19.

Board Member Samson Mirhan also tested positive for COVID-19 but has not been to Capitol lately since the SP has been conducting virtual sessions.*
