Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya warned restaurants and cafes in the city against a man, who calls and introduces himself as the solon to make reservations.
Gasataya said that a restaurant and a café in Brgy. Mansilingan have reported the modus to him yesterday.
The managements of these establishments said the caller uses a cellphone with number 0926-8828981 and made a reservation for 30 persons for a meeting with the Department of Health and the Philippine National Police.
Gasataya said he did not make those reservations because, if there are events, he asks his staff members to make personal reservations instead of just calling the establishments.
He said he already asked his staff to check if there are other restaurants in Bacolod that have been victimized by the scammer.
Gasataya added that it is unfortunate that amid the pandemic, there are people who can still think of duping others, especially business establishments.
“Should you receive a similar call, please do confirm with our office first, through me or any of our staff before booking any reservations,” he said.
This sort of smear campaign is unacceptable as business establishments have struggled enough with the pandemic and still be scammed into wasting their precious resources. “We are now coordinating with the proper authorities regarding this incident. Please stay vigilant, Bacolod,” Gasataya added.*
