Residents of Block 2 Gardenville Subdivision in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City, were shocked when the decomposing bodies of their four neighbors were found in the compound past 10 a.m. yesterday.

Revenge is one of the angles being eyed behind the murders of Jocelyn Nombre, 59, her sister Gemma Espinosa, 69, her nephew John Michael Espinosa, 35, and his 6-year-old daughter, P/Major Joerey Puerto, Police Station 8 chief, said.

Puerto said all victims had head injuries although the weapon used in killing them was not recovered.

He said there was no forcible entry, indicating that the victims knew the suspect/s.

Puerto added that there was a closed-circuit television camera at the gate of the victims’ residence but it was non-functional.

SUSPECT A RELATIVE?

Station 8 policemen arrested Dondon Christian Tulot, who is considered a person of interest, in a follow-up operation in Salvador Benedicto town yesterday afternoon.

A relative of the victims said that Tulot introduced himself as their relative and was allowed to stay with them.

During his interrogation, the police asked him to show his belongings and sachets of suspected shabu were recovered in his possession.

Tulot denied killing the victims, adding that he went home to Salvador Benedicto to get his salary.

He also said that he was not arrested but he surrendered to clear his name.

Puerto said they will get samples of Tulot’s fingerprints and match these with those found at the crime scene.

He said that, aside from Tulot, there could be another suspect, adding that they also noted inconsistencies in his statement.

Puerto also said that they will verify if the motorcycle used by Tulot is the one reported missing from the victims’ residence.

NO CONTACT

Jona delos Santos, the sister-in-law of Jocelyn’s husband, Jonel, who works as a seaman, said he asked her to visit his wife yesterday after he failed to contact her for almost four days.

When she arrived in the house, no one answered her calls and this prompted her to seek assistance from the help.

When the police arrived, they found that the kitchen door was open, and further search showed the body of the minor lying on the sofa.

The bodies of Michael and Jocelyn were later seen lying flat on the ground near the terrace, covered with cartons and a blanket, while Gemma was found in a nipa hut at the back portion of the compound.

A sibling of Gemma and Jocelyn said she was shocked and could not believe what had happened.

She said that Jocelyn had been living with their older sister as she has no children, while Michael was also living with them together with his daughter since his wife is abroad.

Police probers said the victims may have been dead for about three days already, adding that no sign of forcible entry was found. P/Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda, regional police director of Western Visayas, ordered BCPO chief, Col. Manuel Placido, to immediately solve the case.*
