Flights to and from Negros Occidental will be suspended starting today until August 15 in compliance with the modified enhanced community quarantine guidelines imposed by the national government in Metro Manila.

In an advisory yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in Bacolod City said that the Manila-Bacolod-Manila flights of Cebu Pacific Air and AirAsia will be cancelled due to the restrictions brought by the MECQ status of Metro Manila.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said the two airlines have also informed them yesterday of the cancellation of flights.

Bacolod City Councilor Cindy Rojas, chair of the Action Team on Non-OFW Returning Residents, also confirmed that Philippine Airlines has cancelled all domestic flights to and from Manila starting today until August 18, based on its advisory.

But the domestic flights of PAL and Cebu Pacific in Clark, Cebu, and Davao were not affected and will remain operational, as well as the international flights, they said in their respective advisories.

Passengers of canceled flights have options to rebook, refund, or convert their ticket into a travel voucher.

Meanwhile, Diaz said that Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson earlier directed to continue bringing in locally stranded individuals back to the province, adding that CAAP has already issued a clearance for the return of stranded Negrenses in the next two weeks.

He said the province was supposed to receive about 1,800 individuals, with 155 passengers per flight, in the next two weeks.

He added the province is ready to accept LSIs, but the cancellation of flights is a decision from the national government.

Diaz said sea trips from Manila are also expected to be suspended, although there was no notice yet.

From March 30 to July 31, the province accepted 11,178 Negrenses, 8,553 of them LSIs and 2,625 are overseas Filipino workers, Diaz said.

Aside from domestic flights, other public transport in Metro Manila such as trains, buses, jeepneys, taxis, and ride-hailing will also be suspended under the MECQ.*
