BY CHRYSEE G. SAMILLANO

Three fire trucks of the Bureau of Fire Protection rushed to the Bacolod City Government Center yesterday morning after receiving a call that there was smoke emanating from the Administrative Office at the third floor of the facility.

The estimated damage caused by the fire was about P50,000, based on the report submitted by Fire Officer 1 Paul Servano to the BFP.

Executive assistant Celestino Guara, cluster head on peace and order, and police matters, and head of the Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), said that some offices at the third floor of the BCGC were temporarily closed yesterday and will resume operations today.

He said a POSO guard assigned to the BCGC noticed a smell that he described like something burning at the third floor of the building and when he checked the area he saw smoke inside the Administrative Office, which is beside the City Mayor’s Office. So he immediately called the BFP at about 6 a.m., he said.

Guara said that because the sprinklers were functioning, the fire damaged only a few tables, computers and some documents.

He said the arson investigator is still looking into the origin of the fire, that could have been caused by an electrical short circuit due to the heavy downpour the night before.

The fire was put out at about 6:24 a.m. yesterday*CGS
