The country may expect warmer days ahead with the onset of the dry season in the coming days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.
In a statement, PAGASA administrator Vicente Malano said a gradual increase in daily temperature over most parts of the country has been observed.
He said that the weakening of the high pressure area in mainland Asia, the shifting of prevailing winds from northeasterly to easterly, and the gradual strengthening of the North Pacific High.
These changes in wind patterns and pressure systems are consistent with the changing of seasons, Malano said, adding that the northeast monsoon season may likely end over the weekend.
“The prevailing weather system in the country signifies the eventual coming of warm and dry season,” he said.
Meanwhile, despite the warm days, Malano said isolated rain showers are still likely, especially in the afternoon or evening.
La Niña is weakening, but may still affect some parts of the archipelago, resulting to above normal rainfall conditions, according to Malano.
Slight to moderate sea condition may also prevail due to the prevalence of the easterlies.
PAGASA advised the public to minimize heat stress, avoid health risks associated with the dry season, and to optimize the use of water.*PNA
