Drug suspect in shootout with cops dies

An alleged drug personality died in a reported shootout with police operatives in Sitio Cabay Bodega, Brgy. 5, in Silay City, Negros Occidental, Thursday night.

The fatality was identified by the Silay police as Owniel Rojo of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, and classified as a Street Level Individual drug personality.

Maj. Rollie Pondevilla, Silay City police chief, in his report to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said that Rojo, 29, who was armed with a .45 caliber pistol, tried to shoot police operatives during the buy-bust operation.

However, Rojo died after he was shot by police operatives, Pondevilla said.
Silay police operatives recovered four grams of suspected shabu with a market value of P27, 200 and its paraphernalia, a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine containing seven ammunition, P5,590 in cash, a hand knuckle with a knife, and a red Susuki 110 motorcycle from Rojo.

A civilian identified as Christian Ganon, who was hit by a stray bullet, is now in stable condition, Pondevilla said.

Also on Thursday, policemen arrested three drug suspects and recovered suspected shabu worth P272,000 in another buy-bust operation at Ylagan Street in Brgy. 6, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Nabbed were Mon del Rosario, Bernel Bubuli and Ma. Angela Sandoval of San Carlos City.

The arrest of the three drug suspects yielded 40 grams of suspected shabu with a market value of P272,200, and its assorted paraphernalia, a Smith and Wesson 357 caliber revolver with two ammunition, a gun holster and P500 in marked money.

A buy-bust operation in Purok Rose, Brgy. East, Candoni, also resulted in the arrest of a drug suspect identified by the police as Dou Young Kang and the recovery of three sachets of suspected shabu, P500 in marked money and P20 in cash.

Meanwhile, a certain Sanny Bendol was also arrested Thursday by the police in Brgy. Zamora, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, for violation of RA10591, the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

The implementation of the search warrant issued by La Carlota Regional Trial Court Judge Cyclamen Jison Fernandez, led to the seizure of a caliber 22 revolver, eight cartridges of 38 and 22 caliber revolvers.*
