Meat prices down as supply stabilizes

Meat prices in Negros Occidental including Bacolod City continue to decrease as of Monday, based on the monitoring conducted by the Provincial Veterinary Office.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the reduction in the prices was brought about the stable supply of meat products particularly pork while the demand has decreased.

Decena said that Negros Occidental’s open market in Cebu province and areas in the National Capital Region also played a vital part in stabilizing the prices of meat products in the province.

Records from PVO showed that carabao meat are now sold at P268 in the market for every kilo from P270 last week or a difference of P2 while the  price of pork is now P229 for every kilo compared to its previous cost which was  P230 per kilo,  or a difference of P1.

Prices of beef, goat meat, and native chicken remained at P281, 338 and P253 for every kilo respectively. Only broiler chicken has increased its price as it is now sold for P185 per kilo while it was only P184 per kilo last week, or a rise of P1 per kilo, PVO records also showed.

Decena explained that the increase of the price of broiled chicken was triggered by its low supply following the depopulation by most of the growers in the province.

He also reported that the prices of eggs are still ranging from P6 to P8 per piece depending on the size which he said was due to the increase of the supplies and the outsourcing made by the province from Iloilo and other parts of Mindanao.*
