Were they swimming in the fountain area in front of the Bacolod Government Center?
This was the question of many netizens following the circulation of a viral photo on social media showing two men apparently dipping in the fountain water Saturday morning without any city guard in the area.
But Councilor Cindy Rojas, who received a copy of the picture, verified the matter with engineer May Nettia of the Office of the Building Administrator and was told that the men were cleaning the fountain and were not passersby taking a bath.
In fact, after cleaning the fountain, the men also helped in cleaning and disinfecting some areas of the government Center, Rojas said.
Although there is no budget for the maintenance of the fountain, personnel from OBA conduct regular cleaning of the fountain every Saturday. Personnel from the Public Order and Safety Office augmented the workforce assigned near the fountain after a man brought a pail and took a bath in the area in April last year.*
