BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The coronavirus disease positivity rate in Negros Occidental was down to six percent in the first 18 days of November, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

The positivity rate is the percentage of those who tested positive for Covid-19 out of the total number of individuals swabbed.

In some instances, it even went down from six percent, which is a good sign, Diaz said.

He also reported that the province recorded 20 positive cases from the tests conducted by the molecular laboratory of the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City on Wednesday.

Diaz said the TLJPH molecular laboratory conducts an average of 744 Covid tests daily although it has the capacity to do 1,300 tests per day.

Since it started operationsin June, the molecular laboratory had conducted 95,248 Covid-19 tests.

As of Nov. 18, Negros Occidental had 5,275 confirmed cases. Of the number,1,101 are active cases, with 4,070 recoveries, and 104 deaths.

Another molecular laboratory at the Valladolid District Hospital in Valladolid town will open soon.

Diaz said that machines for the Valladolid molecular laboratory, including robotics equipment that will help lessen the exposure of frontliners to the virus, are scheduled to arrive this week.

The Valladolid District Hospital can conduct 1,000 Covid-19 tests daily.

With this development, Diaz said molecular laboratories in Negros Occidental can conduct Covid testing for the entire Negros Island.

He also stressed the need for Negrenses to continue observing the mandated safety and health protocols against the disease.*GPB
