A 60-year-old carpenter from Purok Mahimulaton, Zone 5, Barangay Banago, Bacolod City died Wednesday and was cremated on the same day before test results showing that he was positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was released, Banago Barangay Captain Ricky Mijares said yesterday.

Mijares said he was only informed of the matter Thursday so he ordered 11 houses in the purok, where the carpenter lived, sealed off. They are now waiting for the opinion of Dr. Grace Tan if there is a need for the affected residents to undergo swab testing.

Also, four houses in Purok Riverside, Zone 3 in Banago were sealed off after a 25-year-old male locally stranded individual (LSI) tested positive of COVID-19 and was transferred to a quarantine facility Thursday. He arrived in Bacolod on July 13, Mijares said.

The barangay provided the affected families with food assistance and water. Mijares said he plans to request for additional food assistance from the city government.

Meanwhile, Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of the city’s inter-agency task force against coronavirus, said the house of a male healthcare worker from Estancia Subdivision, Barangay Mandalagan was also sealed off.

Familiaran said the patient is now in a quarantine facility while his family is under home quarantine.*
