Coronavirus positivity rate up

BY ADRIAN P. NEMES III

The Covid-19 positivity rate in Bacolod significantly climbed up, as of July 17, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit records show.

CESU, in an advisory over the weekend, announced that, based on the samples they conducted, Covid positivity rate in Bacolod was at 55.38 percent.

The figure was higher than the 29 percent positivity rate recorded from July 3 to 9 and the 30.09 percent lodged from June 28 to July 3.

At the government-run Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, 36 patients tested positive for Covid while 64 others were also considered coronavirus-related confinements.

The CLMMRH continued to be undermanned due to the isolation of its 176 personnel, who were highly exposed to Covid-19 patients.

As of Saturday, 50 personnel have tested positive of the disease and were placed in isolation.

The CLMMRH also announced that their critical care unit for Covid was temporarily closed effective July 15, for thorough disinfection and necessary renovations to ensure a safe environment for workers and patients.

The hospital will continue to cater to coordinated patients’ transfers and those with queries may call 0917-1007093 or 701-7865.

DELTA VARIANT

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, meanwhile, called for an emergency meeting Friday with the officials of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force to discuss the measures to take against the Delta variant of the Covid.

The Delta variant, first recorded in India, is considered to be more transmissible and infectious and said to have caused the current spike of cases in Indonesia.

In Western Visayas, two Antiqueños tested positive for the Delta variant, based on the genome sequencing conducted, Department of Health Region 6 director Adriano Suba-an said. They were part of the 11 cases recorded in the Philippines although these patients are already recuperating, the DOH said.*
