A police officer assigned at the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office tested positive for use of illegal drugs during a random testing conducted on 6,051 personnel assigned in PNP units in Western Visayas from Nov. 27 last year to Jan. 13.
Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6, said yesterday that the police officer is now being investigated.
Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda, PRO 6 police director, announced earlier that he will subject all personnel to drug testing.
There are 13,849 police personnel assigned in Western Visayas.
Miranda, who underwent drug testing on Jan. 13 at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City, stressed that a leader should set an example to his men.
The random drug testing forms part of the Philippine National Police’s internal cleansing program to rid the PNP of personnel using illegal drugs. Malong said the Regional Crime Laboratory 6 will continue with the surprise and targeted drug testing on the remaining 7,798 personnel, in coordination with the Regional Investigation Division and the Regional Intelligence Division.*
